Some new overnight accommodations are available in downtown Dresden, at 127 Main Street.
“The Hub and Spoke consists of two upscale suites located in downtown Dresden,” their listing on Airbnb states.
“Modern, inviting and central. Suited for just about anyone from corporate travelers to relaxation seekers. Enjoy everything the town has to offer, most within walking distance. Stroll the Trillium trail, rent a canoe and paddle along the Sydenham river and do not miss the iconic Uncle Tom’s Cabin. If you travel with a four-legged companion, one of our suites is pet friendly and equipped with dog dishes and a pet bed.”
The listing also provides some details “about the roots” of their name and space.
“Alexander McVean, who was known as a personal friend of Sir John A. MacDonald, arrived in Dresden in 1870,” the listing on Airbnb states.
“He and his wife Sara had five sons and a daughter. In 1879, he took over sole ownership of the Hub and Spoke Factory. The factory became a success and the McVean’s family dominated Dresden’s business community for nearly a half-century. They provided the economic driver for the village, employing as many as 80 workers year-round. In honour of their entrepreneurial spirit, we chose to name this special space after the start of their success.”
During the design period of the space, the owners say they wanted to bring back “some of the old days’ charm” and decided to expose a section of the “beautiful and warm” terracotta brick that is prominent in downtown Dresden.
“The 12 foot ceilings give the space a lofty and open feel,” the listing on Airbnb states.
“The front sitting area is the ultimate reading spot with its view of the clock tower and its soothing ringing reminder to enjoy every hour. The kitchenette is equipped with a small fridge/freezer, a microwave, toaster and kettle. The living room and the bedroom have a large flat screen smart TV for your favourite movies or Netflix series. The bathroom with its 4 foot by 7 foot walk in shower is what everyone needs after a hard day of working or playing.”
The Hub and Spoke also launched a Facebook page this week, which be seen, here.
