David Edwards

It is with the heaviest of hearts and profound sorrow that the family of David Kent Edwards announces his sudden passing at the age of 75 on February 5, 2021 at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg, Ontario.

David was born in Windsor, Ontario on November 18, 1945 to Florence (Switzer) and George Edwards.

He was predeceased by his parents, older brother George, older sister Mary and his wife, Mary Catherine “Marcy” (Arbour).

He is survived by his sister Lynda, his five children Tim (Erin), Sarah (Roberto), James (Marisa), Kate (Manny) and Tony. He will always be “Papa” to his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Carter, Liam, Aila, Lucas, Ashlyn, Meara, Jack, Emilie, Declan and Lauren.

He will also be missed by his special friend, Diane Rohrer along with his many nieces and nephews.

David was a beloved teacher for over 40 years at Wallaceburg District Secondary School where he taught English and History.

For many years he helped put together the W.D.S.S. Yearbook and would happily attend and support all school functions and events, snapping pictures of unsuspecting students.

In the hallways you were often greeted with a cheery, “Good Morning!” no matter what time of day.

David retired at the age of 70, having taught several generations of Wallaceburg students.

David served as a Wallaceburg Town Councilman and also as a School Board Trustee for many years.

He was dedicated to community service and took pride in his adopted town of Wallaceburg.

David was an avid outdoorsman and instilled a love of camping and adventure with his children.

In his later years, he and his youngest son Tony, had many adventures out East and at the Nine Mile River.

He would often join his children and grandchildren in their annual camping trips at the Pinery Provincial Park.

So many cherished memories, he will be missed.

In the words of his favourite artist, Bob Dylan:

May your heart always be joyful

May your song always be sung

And may you stay forever young.

Perhaps it was his Irish heritage,

David always had a song in his heart and a story to tell.
