Collision leads to impaired charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, just before 8 a.m. police received information that a man driving erratically drove off the roadway into a snow-filled ditch on Baldoon Road near Cedar Hedge Line.

Upon arriving on scene, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of a drug.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation.

As a result, the DRE officer believed the man was impaired by a drug.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of suspected hydromorphone, fentanyl, oxycodone, drug paraphernalia, cell phone and large amount of cash.

Through investigation, police learned that the man did not have permission from the registered owner to be driving the vehicle as he was a suspended driver.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving, take motor vehicle without consent, driving while under suspension, three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions and three counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded with a future court date of March 1, 2021.

His passenger, a 25-year-old Chatham man, was arrested on an outstanding warrant in connection with two shoplifting incidents at Walmart in Chatham last month.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was also found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl.

He was additionally charged with drug possession and released pending a future court date of March 25, 2021.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a family dispute in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man damaged the siding and doors of the home when he was denied entry.

Through investigation, police learned that the man had also damaged a family member’s vehicle.

Officers located the man a short distance away and following a short foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.

The 24-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of mischief.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with committing an indecent act

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Wednesday, a woman reported to police that she observed her neighbour exposing himself while in their apartment building.

Last night, police arrested and charged the 40-year-old Chatham man with committing an indecent act.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic stop leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 6, 2021 the man and woman were both released from custody with conditions not to communicate with each other.

Last night, police initiated a traffic stop in Wallaceburg and found the pair together.

The 22-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions.

She was released pending a future court date of March 15, 2021.

The 28-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of March 15, 2021.
