Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent kicks off their 2021 walk season

The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent (ASCK) is bringing their annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraising event online once again.

This year’s event is occurring on Saturday, May 29, but ASCK is encouraging people to walk your way all month long.

“Walk, run, dance, do yoga or even bake to help support people living with dementia in Chatham-Kent,” ASCK officials said in a press release.

ASCK assists over 1,000 clients and care partners each year in Chatham-Kent and that number will continue to grow as the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias increases, ASCK officials say.

“Chances are you know someone who is affected by this illness,” ASCK officials say.

“Donations ensure that no one is left behind when seeking ASCK’s wide variety of programs and services. While participants are being active during the month of May, virtual weekly celebrations will be held with prizes. Stay connected to ASCK to find out what festivities and prizes they have in store.”

A safe, family-friendly scavenger hunt is on tap for Saturday, May 29 in Chatham, ASCK officials added.

“Enjoy local nature spots as you search for forget-me-not flower pinwheels with a team or by yourself,” ASCK officials say.

“More information will be released on how you can participate.”

Returning to this year’s walk is the Dawn Butler Memorial Award.

“This award is presented to the top individual and team fundraiser and is sponsored by Nest Realty,” ASCK officials say.

“To meet this year’s goal of $50,000, ASCK CEO, Mary Ellen Parker, and Board Member and Walk Host, Robyn Brady, will dye their hair blue if their team, FantASCKtic Crew, raises $15,000. To cap it all off, a Walk for Alzheimer’s Show will be broadcast through ASCK’s Facebook page and YourTV Chatham on Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m. Tune in to hear a message from this year’s Walk Ambassador, Chatham-Kent EMS General Manager Donald MacLellan, and Mayor Darrin Canniff.”
