Human remains discovered on Walpole Island, death deemed to be suspicious

Lambton OPP officials allege: An investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is now underway following the discovery of human remains at Walpole Island First Nation on March 17, 2021.

Members from the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, and OPP Canine Unit are assisting Walpole Island First Nation with the investigation.

Initial investigation has deemed the death to be suspicious, however there is no identified threat to public safety.

The investigation is ongoing and an update will be provided when information becomes available.
