Man charged with theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 16, 2021 a man was released from court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that the he was not to attend Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Yesterday morning, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man stole a Fuse Charger and Belkin Charger.

The man fled the store prior to police arrival.

Total value of the theft was approximately $95.

Officers located the man a short time later on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

The 29-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Disturbance leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 12:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a disturbance between a man and woman, known to each other, on Lorne Avenue in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that while outside walking, a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.

During the disturbance, the man removed his clothing and upon police arrival was only wearing his boxer shorts.

Following a short struggle, the man was taken into custody.

While in the rear of the cruiser, the man continued to yell and scream at the woman.

He also spit all over the rear of the cruiser, requiring the vehicle to be taken out of service until professionally cleaned.

The 25-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with assault, cause disturbance and mischief under $5,000.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Theft of tools in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Saturday at 6 p.m. and yesterday at 9 a.m. unknown suspects entered an apartment on King Street East and stole various DeWalt tools and batteries, valued at approximately $3,500.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 2 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Raleigh Street near Harvey Street in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

An 89-year-old Chatham woman was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Bear Line Road near Creek Line in Dover Township.

Minor injuries were reported.

Total damage was estimated at $20,000.

A 77-year-old Wyoming man was charged with making a turn not in safety.
