79 active COVID-19 cases, new workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent

The active COVID-19 case count has dropped by one and now sits at 79 across Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has updated their ‘current situation’ page, which provides a summary of COVID-19 cases and testing in Chatham-Kent, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

The total number of COVID-19 cases increased by nine and sits at 1,615 across Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say four people are hospitalized with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent, one more than on Tuesday.

Public health officials announced 10 new recoveries, increasing the total at 1,526.

A new un-named workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent was announced on Wednesday by public health officials.

CK Public Health had announced a separate un-named workplace outbreak in Chatham-Kent on Tuesday as well.

“(The workplace outbreak on Tuesday is) not open to the public, four cases associated with the outbreak, none of which are CK residents,” Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current.

“(The workplace outbreak announced on Wednesday is) not open to the public, three cases associated with the outbreak that are CK residents.”

A school outbreak at A.A. Wright Public School in Wallaceburg, involving five total cases, remains active.

Also, an institutional outbreak at Hudson Manor, a retirement home in Tilbury, involving two total cases, remains active.

52 of the active cases across Chatham-Kent are linked to close contact, 12 are unknown, nine cases have information pending, two cases are linked to workplace outbreaks in Chatham-Kent, one case is linked to outbreaks outside of Chatham-Kent, one case is linked to the school outbreak, one case is linked to the institutional outbreak in Chatham-Kent and one case is linked to outbreaks in a community setting in Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say a total of 50 Chatham-Kent residents have had COVID-19 with a variant of concern or related mutation.

46 of the cases had a mutation detected with “no lineage identified”, while four cases had detected the B.1.1.7 variant of concern, also known as the U.K. variant, public health officials say.

Since the pandemic began last March, a total of 10 people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.

A total of 94,864 tests for the virus have been completed to date.

Public health officials say 21,212 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered to date.

Beginning on Monday, March 22, 2021, Chatham-Kent moved into the ‘Red-Control’ tier of the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open framework.
