Bike Safety Month being celebrated in Wallaceburg

Back in 2019, Wallaceburg successfully held a Bike Rodeo, which is a bike safety course for children. During these unprecedented times, it was cancelled last year and this year it cannot be held again.

However, the Wallaceburg Bike Rodeo committee has found a way to continue educating children in bike safety while maintaining COVID measures this year.

“Throughout the month of July, our C-K Police Service officers will be handing out 62 coupons for a free ice cream cone at The Sugar Shack,” organizer say.

“Wallaceburg children on their bikes, scooters or skateboards that are practicing proper riding rules and wearing a bike helmet will receive a coupon. However, realizing that we would not be able to reach as many children as we would like, we partnered with the CKPL our local library. They will be handing out Bike Safety Activity Booklets during their reading program.”

Organizers say these booklets are designed for children between the ages of four to 13.

“When complete, the children will find a picture of a helmet that they can colour or decorate anyway they like,” organizer say.

“They may drop it off at Comic Oasis to have an opportunity to win one of our weekly draws in July for an ice-cream treat as well as one of two grand prizes on August 5. There will also be additional secondary prizes. Details of prizes will be released slowly from the end of June and through the month of July on the Wallaceburg Bike Rodeo Facebook page.”

Organizers added: “We would like to thank all of our amazing sponsors for helping make this month long event exciting for the Wallaceburg children.”
