Dresden rallies to save race day

Dresden Raceway rallied to save a race day from getting washed away today after several hours of rain made the track slippery for the starting gate.

“Track superintenant Danny Mills was the big hero as he whipped the track into shape so we could race,” said Public Relations Director, Gary Patterson, in a media release.

“With several hours of slow drizzle the top surface of the track became very muddy and slippery for the starting gate and when they did a practice run it fishtailed.”

Mills went to work scraping the top layer off the track and resurfaced parts of it to allow for better traction for the starting gate.

After a two hour delay for the first race post time the 10 race card went off without a hitch.

“His (Mills) hard work and quick action definitely saved the card of racing,” said Patterson.

Mark St Louis scored three winners on the day including going wire-to-wire with The Loan Ranger in the Perferred 3 feature race.

The eight-year-old Up The Credit gelding is owned by Don and Heather McGregor of Camlachie and trained by Peter Core.

The Loan Ranger cut fractions of 30, 1:01.4, 1:30.4 for a mile time of 2:00 on a track that was listed as good with a two second variance.

The total handle was $31,516.
