Update: Body of missing Windsor man located in Lake Erie near Port Glasgow

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On Saturday, August 21, 2021, at approximately 10:48 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Detachment, Elgin County OPP Marine Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit responded to Lake Erie after a fishermen located a deceased individual floating in the water.

It was determined that a fishermen was approximately 7 ½ miles south west of Port Glasgow in Lake Erie when they located the deceased and immediately contacted police.

Officers attended the area and confirmed that the deceased was a missing 57-year-old individual from Windsor, Ontario that was involved in an incident on August 6, 2021 in Rondeau Bay.

The investigation is continuing and the OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners and members of the public for their assistance with this investigation.

As previously released, on Friday, August 6, 2021 at approximately 9:22 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Detachment, and Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded to Rondeau Provincial Park located in the Chatham-Kent Municipality for report of an overturned vessel in the waters of Lake Erie.

It was determined that an operator of a vessel observed a boat that had overturned approximately 100 yards from the shoreline and contacted police.

At approximately 11 a.m., firefighters located an unresponsive person on the shoreline of Rondeau Provincial Park who was subsequently pronounced deceased.

It was discovered through further investigation that a second person was outstanding from the same vessel.

OPP along with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton, Canadian Coast Guard, OPP Aviation Services and members of the Rondeau Provincial Park had been searching the waters of Lake Erie.

West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, and OPP Forensic Identification Services attended the scene as well.
