Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated their ‘current status’ page of their website on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
The active COVID-19 case count has risen to 98, 21 more than on Friday.
Public health officials say 72.1% of the active cases are unvaccinated, 13.6% are partially vaccinated, 7.9% are fully vaccinated and 6.4% are unknown. These figures were last updated on August 28, 2021, public health officials say.
A total of nine people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, three more than on Friday.
The total number of COVID-19 cases is 2,127 across Chatham-Kent, 47 more than on Friday.
A total of 2,012 cases have been resolved.
A total of 53 active cases are linked to close contact, 27 cases have information pending, 14 cases are unknown, three cases are outbreak related and one case is linked to travel.
A new outbreak has been announced at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, within the Medicine A Unit of hospital in Chatham.
The outbreak was first declared on September 6, 2021 and involved two total cases.
“As of September 6, 2021, two patients on Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) Medicine Unit, located at the Chatham Site, have received a positive test result for COVID-19,” hospital officials said in a media release.
“An outbreak has been declared on the Medicine Unit by Chatham-Kent (CK) Public Health. As per directive from the province, an outbreak is declared as soon as two or more staff and/or patients test positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period in a specified area (unit/floor/service). CK Public Health works closely with CKHA to manage the outbreak on the Medicine Unit, and will work in consultation with Public Health to declare the outbreak over.”
CK Public Health officials say a community outbreak at an un-named congregate living setting remains active.
This outbreak includes eight cases in total and was first declared on August 25, 2021.
CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.
“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.
Public health officials say a total of 138,005 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 73,507 people 12+ have received at least one dose and 67,303 people 12+ have received two doses.

A total of 127,563 tests for the virus have been completed to date.
Since the pandemic began last March, a total of 17 people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.
