18th COVID-19 death in C-K, two new outbreaks, active cases at 112

The 18th COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent has been confirmed.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current the most recent death was a woman in her 70’s, who died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

This is the first COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent since June 8, when a women in her 60’s died at the hospital in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated their ‘current status’ page of their website on Friday, September 24, 2021.

The active COVID-19 case count remains at 112, no change from Thursday.

Public health officials say 70.9% of the active cases are unvaccinated, 9.7% are unknown, 9.2% are fully vaccinated, 8.7% are partially vaccinated and 1.8% are not yet protected. These figures are as of September 18, 2021, public health officials say.

A total of eight people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, four less than on Thursday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 2,382 across Chatham-Kent, 13 more than on Thursday.

A total of 2,252 cases have been resolved.

A total of 60 active cases are linked to close contact, 20 cases are unknown, 18 cases are outbreak related and 14 cases have information pending.

Public health officials say there are six current outbreaks across Chatham-Kent, two more than on Thursday.

A new outbreak was declared at Copper Terrace, a long-term care home in Chatham, on Thursday. This outbreak involves three active cases, public health officials say.

A new outbreak was also declared at Tilbury District High School on Thursday. School board officials say the outbreak involves four cases, all among students.

A school outbreak at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden, declared on September 21, 2021, remains active. This outbreak involves four total cases, three students and one staff member, public school board officials say.

A school outbreak at Dresden Area Central School, declared on September 18, 2021, remains active. This outbreak involves one active case, involving a student, school board officials say.

An outbreak at an un-named workplace, declared on September 17, 2021, remains active and involves three cases.

An outbreak at Praise Fellowship Church, located at 165 Park Avenue East in Chatham, remains active and involves 24 cases. This outbreak was first declared on September 10, 2021.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 143,493 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 76,301 people 12+ have received at least one dose and 70,127 people 12+ have received two doses.

CK Public Health officials say a few COVID-19 vaccine clinics are taking place this week:

– Friday, September 24: Wallaceburg District Secondary School 4-7pm

– Saturday, September 25: John D. Bradley Centre 9-3pm

All clinics are using Pfizer, while the Bradley clinic will also have Moderna.

Walk-ins are permitted, up until half an hour before clinics close or book an appointment at www.GetYourShotCK.ca.

A total of 132,466 tests for the virus have been completed to date.
