Active COVID-19 cases at 14 on Walpole Island, school re-opening on Thursday

Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig, the elementary school on Walpole Island, will re-open on Thursday, October 7.

“Students can submit completed work packages when they return to the classroom,” school officials said on social media on Tuesday.

The school closed back on September 24, due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Walpole Island officials said on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 there are currently 14 active COVID-19 cases on the First Nation reserve.

Since the pandemic began, 216 positive cases have been confirmed on Walpole, 1,587 tests have been conducted and four people have died.

There are also 13 pending cases, Walpole Island officials say.
