‘Overwhelming positive response’ to C-K employee COVID-19 vaccine & testing policy

Municipal officials say there has been an “overwhelming positive response” by Chatham-Kent employees
to the municipal COVID-19 Vaccination Verification and Testing policy.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent implemented the policy on October 1 requiring employees and volunteers to declare their vaccination status no later than October 18.

To date, 86 per cent of employees have provided proof of being fully vaccinated, while another six per cent have received their first or second dose.

By mid November, the municipality anticipates more than 95 per cent of employees will be fully vaccinated.

Those not fully vaccinated are now required to regularly submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test in order to attend the worksite.

“We are encouraged by the number of employees who have vaccinated in an effort to do our part to keep one another and those that we serve healthy and safe,” said Cathy Hoffman, GM Corporate Services/Chief Human Resources Officer, in a media release.

On October 4, Council approved a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for Council and Committee Members that is currently being implemented.

A separate policy for contractors will be implemented soon, Municipal officials say.

Visitors and patrons of municipal facilities continue to follow provincial guidelines, some of which are included in the provincial vaccination certification program.
