Councillors Brock McGregor and Karen Kirkwood-Whyte joined local members of CK Pride in a flag-raising ceremony for Transgender Awareness Week.
Municipal officials say Transgender Awareness Week brings attention to this group of amazing people in our community by educating the public about what it means to be transgender and sharing stories and experiences to combat the issues of prejudice, discrimination and violence that affect the transgender community daily.
During the ceremony, Councillor McGregor stated: “The Municipality is taking steps to increase our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. We know we have a long way to go. Communities only change when community members push for change.”
