Driver charged with failing to stop for a school bus in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Wednesday afternoon, an officer with the Traffic Unit was monitoring the school zone on Murray Street near Holy Family School in Wallaceburg in response to complaints regarding drivers not stopping for buses.

As a result, a 55-year-old Wallaceburg man was stopped and charged with failing to stop for a school bus and driving without a license.

His vehicle was towed from the scene.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind drivers that the fine for failing to stop for a school bus with its lights activated is $490 plus six demerit points.

The real tragedy would be if you struck a child getting on or off the bus, so please use caution when travelling during school hours.

The safety of our children is a shared responsibility.
