Police: School bus crash, stolen vehicle recovered, speeding

Recovered stolen vehicle leads to arrests

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. unknown suspects stole a 2002 white GMC Envoy from the area of King Street West near Sixth Street in Chatham.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. officers located the vehicle travelling on Tecumseh Line.

A traffic stop was initiated and officers arrested both people inside the vehicle.

The driver, a 27-year-old Chatham woman was charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and drug possession.

She was released pending a future court date of January 13, 2022.

Her passenger, a 35-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession.

He was released pending a future court date of January 13, 2022.

Man charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned the man assaulted the woman on multiple occasions, damaged her laptop and forcibly confined her inside his residence for several days.

Thankfully, another resident in the home last night, heard the commotion and called police.

The 34-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with:

– Assault (three counts)

– Assault causing bodily harm (2 counts)

– Forcible confinement

– Mischief under $5,000

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with breaching curfew

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On August 27, 2021 the man was released from Court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Around 1:30 a.m. this morning, officers located the man hiding inside the bathroom of a business on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

The 38-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor vehicle collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, just before 9 a.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision, involving a school bus on Braemar Boulevard near Indian Creek Road West in Chatham.

Thankfully, no children on the bus were injured.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

The collision remains under investigation.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, members of the Traffic Unit conducted enforcement throughout the Municipality.

Four motorists were stopped and charged with speeding on Middle Line, just outside of Tilbury.

One motorist was stopped and charged with speeding through the Community Safety Zone on Murray Street near Holy Family School in Wallaceburg.
