26th & 27th COVID-19 deaths reported in Chatham-Kent

The 26th and 27th COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials confirmed the information on the ‘current status’ page of their website on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

CK Public Health officials told the Sydenham Current one man was in his 60s and the other was in his 70s.

Both died in hospitals outside of Chatham-Kent at the end of last week.

The active COVID-19 case count dropped to 145 on Tuesday, 19 less than on Monday.

A total of eight people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, one less than on Monday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 3,375 across Chatham-Kent, three more than on Monday.

A total of 3,203 cases have been resolved.

A total of 54 active cases are linked to close contact, 40 cases have information pending, 26 cases are unknown, 23 cases are outbreak related and two are linked to travel.

Public health officials say six outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at St. Angela Merici Catholic School in Chatham, declared on December 20, 2021, involves four cases.

– An outbreak at Good Shepherd Catholic School in Thamesville, declared on December 17, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Holy Family Catholic School in Wallaceburg, declared on December 15, 2021, involves four cases.

– An outbreak at St. Phillipe in Grand Pointe, declared on December 13, 2021, involves five cases.

– An outbreak at Gregory Drive Public School in Chatham, declared on December 11, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named manufacturing workplace, declared on December 2, 2021, involves 17 cases.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 166,809 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 82,655 people 5+ have received at least one dose and 78,285 people 5+ have received two doses.
