TBT: Queen Elizabeth II coronation & the Royal Yacht in the St. Clair River

Throwback Thursday is sponsored by the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home in Wallaceburg:

The Sombra Museum published a post recently about Queen Elizabeth II celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this week.

Here is what they had to say:

“Happy Platinum Jubilee to #HerMajesty #queenelizabeth ! Today, February 6, marks 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne upon the death of her father, King George VI.

Pictured (above) is an official portrait of the Queen on the front cover, in somewhat poor condition, of a commemorative magazine printed in 1953 celebrating her official coronation.

The second image (below) is a composite of several related items from the museum’s archival collection, featuring a write-up detailing the history of the Royal Yacht Britannia, a photo of the yacht with the Queen and Prince Philip waving from the stern as it passed Sombra during an official visit in 1959, and a photo of cars lined up at Port Lambton hoping to catch a glimpse of the royals as they sailed by.”
