Very strong winds expected, special weather statement issued

The special weather statement has ended.

A special weather statement has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as very strong winds are expected today.

“Very strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h are forecast to develop this morning,” Environment Canada officials said on Sunday, February 20, 2022.

“These strong winds will continue through the day before weakening this evening. The strongest wind gusts are expected over the Bruce Peninsula, portions of the Dundalk highlands as well as parts of the Niagara Peninsula.”

Some damage to tree branches may occur as well as some local power outages, forecasters added.
