TBT: Masonic building in Sombra

Throwback Thursday is sponsored by Your Hometown Deli in Wallaceburg:

The Sombra Museum recently posted the above photo of the former Masonic building in Sombra.

Here is what they had to say about the photo:

“The Masonic building at the corner of King and St. Clair was first built in 1903 by the Masonic Lodge. The Lodge had been formed in 1889 and they started out meeting in Port Lambton, then over Ed Tomlin’s store in Sombra. The Lodge used only the second floor of the building and in 1905 Hamilton Waddell moved to Sombra and opened a grocery store on the first floor of the building. He later had sold the building to Mr. George Kerr in 1919 and the building went on to have many different owners with a variety of different operations such as an antique shop, convenience store, and even a library (in the back room) at one point. The store also had its windows blown out in 1920 when the bank across the road exploded. This store is still standing today and is just one of many stops on our walking tour!”
