‘West End Pantry’ unveiled in Wallaceburg

The St. Elizabeth Catholic School community gathered on Saturday, March 26, 2022 to officially open a neighbourhood food pantry, which is located adjacent to the No Frills parking lot in Wallaceburg.

The project, called the ‘West End Pantry’, is the work of Clare Quinlan’s Grade 4/5 class, with lots of help from several community partners.

Dana Haggith caught up with Quinlan at the unveiling for an interview. Listen, below:

“I am so proud of our students, staff and families who came together to make this neighbourhood food pantry possible,” stated Stacy Shepley, Principal of St. Elizabeth Catholic School, in a media release.

“Through this project, and many others like it, our students are living their baptismal call to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.”

The food pantry structure was built by Scott Mills, a parent at the school, with the Plexiglas donated by Scott Bowen of Glass Guru.

Mark Popieul, the owner/manager of No Frills in Wallaceburg consented to have the pantry erected on the grocery store property.

The project was funded through a Ministry of Education Experiential Learning grant, St. Clair Catholic School Board officials say.

The food pantry will be stocked by donations from the school and the community.
