From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
In the church, the week ahead of us is commonly called “Holy Week” and is a time of concentrated focus on the last week of Christ’s life before His crucifixion and subsequent resurrection.
An enormous amount of the narrative in the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) is devoted to the last week in Christ’s life.
Although Christmas gets more attention and is also an important time of celebration for Christians, nevertheless it is the passion of our Lord which is most significant for the Christian faith.
You may or may not be one who follows Jesus Christ but let me give you something to think about in this week ahead.
John 15:13 says this: “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay his life down for his friends.”
The One who made this statement was none other than Jesus Christ of Nazareth and it was a foreshadowing of what He would do when He went to the cross on that first Good Friday.
Personally, when I consider what Jesus did for me it motivates me to look for ways that I can help others, even making sacrifices that would contribute to their wellbeing.
It may be something financial, or a job they need done, or even something as simple as lending a listening ear.
No, I am not literally dying for them, but since Jesus died in my place I should use this life to reach out to others.
I would like to challenge you to consider the person of Jesus this week and what He did on Good Friday for you.
Might that be some impetus for you in the choices you make?
