Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Monday in Chatham-Kent, due to heavy snow.
Forecasters say snowfall amounts of 4 to 8 cm are expected, along with “significantly reduced visibilities” in heavy snow and snowfall rates peaking up to 3 cm/hr.
The snowfall is expected to start falling on Monday afternoon.
“Snow is expected to fall heavily,” forecasters added.
“However, due to surface temperatures being above freezing, snowfall accumulations may be somewhat limited especially on road/walkway surfaces. The onset of precipitation may begin as rain before changing-over to wet snow. Areas under the heavier snowfall and/or higher terrain may locally see higher snowfall amounts.”
Environment Canada officials added: “Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”
