Students at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Wallaceburg squealed and howled as 32 litres of ketchup were launched from squirt bottles at principal Mike Giroux.

Dressed as a giant hot dog, Giroux made a memorable splash as he was repeatedly doused with the sticky red condiment during the school’s “Sauce the Boss” fundraising event.
The event supports the school’s five-year, $100,000 fundraising goal to purchase new playground equipment that will be accessible for all students. The Catholic School Advisory Council has already built momentum toward that target, with $10,000 set aside from the former Christmas in Muskoka event and continued support from the St. Clair District Catholic Education Foundation’s 50/50 fundraisers.
The council also hopes to secure grants and donations from municipal and provincial governments as well as community organizations and service clubs to help move the project forward.
“We know it’s an ambitious goal, but we have a Catholic school community of remarkable and gifted people, who are excited and energized in their commitment to providing playground equipment that’s safe and accessible,” Giroux said. “And we look forward to having fun events like this one, as we move towards our fundraising target!”
The “Sauce the Boss” event raised $575.
