Volunteers sought for election compliance audit committee, subscription list launched for 2022 election

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking volunteers to sit on the election compliance audit committee.

Municipal officials say the committee must be established before the 2022 municipal election voting day October 24, 2022.

“As the committee will operate as a quasi-judicial committee, prior experience on a committee, task force or tribunal would be an asset,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“Ideally, the Committee’s composition would include an auditor, accountant, lawyer, and other individuals with knowledge of the campaign financing rules of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Accordingly, any auditor or accountant appointed to the Committee would have to agree in writing to not undertake the audits or preparation of the financial statements of any candidates seeking election to Council. Failure to adhere to this requirement would result in the individual being removed from the committee.”

Applicants must complete a volunteer application form and may include a brief bio and/or resume highlighting relevant experience and qualifications, Municipal officials say.

The application form is available at any Chatham-Kent Municipal Centre or Municipal Information Desk and on the Committees of Council section of the Chatham-Kent website https://www.chatham-kent.ca.

The volunteer application form must be received by the end of business day, 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2022 at any Municipal Centre or Municipal Information Desk, by fax to 519.436.3237, email: ckclerk@chatham-kent.ca or by mail to Judy Smith, Clerk, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, 315 King Street West, P.O. Box 640, Chatham ON, N7M 5K8.
