OPP: Overhead wires pulled down by construction equipment on the 401

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On May 16, 2022, at 1:28 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of hydro lines down across Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

Officers had temporarily closed a section of Highway 401 between Essex County Road 42 and Queens Line Road.

Construction equipment struck some of the overhead hydro wires above the 401, the lines fell across both East and West bound lanes resulting in the closure of both lanes.

Hydro One crews attended the scene to repair and replace the hydro lines.

Highway 401 reopened shortly after the hydro lines were replaced.
