‘Awesome’ weekend at WAMBO 33

One word can describe the outcome of the 33rd annual Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing (WAMBO) held in Wallaceburg from August 12 to August 14, 2022.

“Awesome,” Bill Wolsing, Chair of WAMBO, told the Sydenham Current.

While the final tallies are still be calculated, Wolsing said he anticipates record numbers for the 2022 festivities.

“We won’t know until we do the final counts, but I’m expecting that,” he said.

One WAMBO record that has already been confirmed, is the total number of cars registered for Saturday’s car show.

Matt Thomas, WAMBO’s Car Manager, said 270 vehicles attended the show, the most ever in WAMBO’s history. The previous high was 250.

“Thank you to all the cars who participated in WAMBO,” Thomas said on social media.

“This was a record number of cars and we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Wolsing said he was impressed with the weekend entertainment and the bands were well received by those in attendance.

“Ray Whaling Band (on Friday night), they’re a classic rock, three-piece … very well done, they play some great music,” Wolsing said.

“Dreamer (a Supertramp tribute band, who played Saturday night)… awesome, loved them… sound just like the record.”

Leave Those Kid’s Alone also drew a tremendous crowd on Saturday afternoon, Wolsing added.

With the walking bridge being closed, Wolsing said most of the WAMBO events were held on the north side of the Sydenham River.

However, the Wallaceburg Farmers’ Market was held on the southside of Wallaceburg during the event, along with the Soap Box Derby, fire truck display and activities at the Museum.

Wolsing said the revamped WAMBO Shuttle Service was successful in transporting hundreds of people to the various WAMBO activities.

“They started off with an empty run the first round and after that it was full all the way, all day,” he said.

The river was jam packed with boats, the motorcycle display was well attended, along with karaoke and the refreshment tent had a steady flow of people all weekend long.

“Art in the Park was great this year, Kristen (Carter) did a great job for her first time putting it together,” Wolsing said, while tipping his cap to the entire committee for their dedication and commitment.

“Well done, very well done. Hats off to them all.”
