This year, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Unit partnered with the OPP West Region and YourTV Chatham-Kent to conduct the annual Give Buses a Brake campaign.
The initiative focused on educating motorists when encountering stopped school buses and conducting speed enforcement in various school zones across the Municipality of Chatham-Kent during the first week of school.
As a result, members of the Chatham-Kent Police and OPP laid 90 provincial offences tickets for speeding and other related offences over the course of the 4-day campaign.
No reported school bus stop offences were reported or observed.
“The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank their partners at the OPP, YourTV Chatham-Kent and the citizens of Chatham-Kent in helping make this initiative a success,” police officials said in a media releaae.
“The lives of our children are paramount and need to be protected. Remember, when you see the flashing red lights of a stopped school bus, please – Give Buses a Brake.”
