Lorne Avenue construction project extended to December 2, watermain installation set for Thursday

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has released some updates regarding the Lorne Avenue construction project in Wallaceburg.

Municipal officials announced on Wednesday the road closure of Lorne Avenue, between Dufferin Avenue and Elizabeth Street, has been extended to Friday, December 2 at 6 p.m.

The project, which includes storm and sanitary sewer replacements, watermain replacement and road reconstruction, got underway on August 30. Originally, the road closure was expected to be lifted by October 7, 2022.

Elgin & Lorne intersection to be closed for one day

Also as part of the project, the Elgin Street and Lorne Avenue intersection is set to be closed to traffic on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The reason for the closure is a watermain installation across Elgin Street, as part of the Lorne Avenue reconstruction project.

Elgin Street will be closed between Selkirk Street and University Avenue and Lorne Avenue will be closed between Elizabeth Street and Wall Street.

“All lanes closed at the intersection of Elgin Street and Lorne Avenue,” Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials said in a media release.

“Local traffic will be permitted up to work zone. Emergency Services will not have access through the work zone.”

A detour will be setup from Selkirk Street, Elizabeth Street, Lisgar Street, Elgin Street, University Street and Wall Street.

Overall with the project, Municipal officials say the majority of the work will be complete by the end of November 2022, while the final asphalt and restoration will take place in the spring of 2023.
