The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor (Landform Civil Infrastructures Ltd.) for the rehabilitation of the Murray Street Bridge over the Sydenham River, in the Community of Wallaceburg.
“Due to material shortages, and the late-season availability of the specialized coating sub-contractor, the full bridge closure will be delayed to the spring of 2023,” Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials said in a media release.
The revised construction phasing is listed below:
Phase 1 – November 7, 2022 to Spring 2023
– Intermittent lane and sidewalk closures
– At least one lane of vehicular traffic in either direction will be maintained
– One sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian use
Phase 2 – Spring 2023
– Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic
– One sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian use
Municipal officials say exact dates and durations for the Phase 2 closure will be communicated ahead of the closure in a media release in the spring.
“Throughout the duration of the project, the Murray Street Bridge will not be operable for larger boats, however, smaller boats that do not require to bridge to be opened will be accommodated,” Municipal officials say.
For Phase 2 of the project, the following two detours will be in place to direct traffic around the site.
The first detour includes: Murray Street, McNaughton Ave, Wellington Street and Margaret Ave.
The second detour includes: Murray Street, Queen Street, Gillard Street, McNaughton Avenue, James Street, Margaret Avenue and Wellington Street
“Chatham-Kent is committed to working with Landform Civil Infrastructures Ltd. to maintain a safe and orderly worksite,” Municipal officials say.
“All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on the surrounding areas. Construction sites have many potential hazards and extreme caution should be taken by adhering to the safety requirements and to stay outside of the construction zones.”
