Strong winds expected Saturday, special weather statement issued

A special weather statement has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as strong winds are expected on Saturday.

Forecasters say hazards, include: strong south to southwesterly winds with gusts to 70 to 80 km/h and an isolated gust to 90 km/h is possible.

The timing is Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, forecasters added.

Impacts include: Loose objects being tossed by the wind and causing injury or damage and isolated power outages are possible.

“A cold front associated with a strengthening area of low pressure will move across the area Saturday evening,” Environment Canada officials say.

“Strong southerly winds beginning Saturday afternoon ahead of the front will veer to southwesterly Saturday evening. Winds will begin to ease later Saturday evening.”
