“Stations #5 – Chatham North, #6 – Dresden and a tanker from #8 – Thamesville responded to a structure fire on Croton Line just before 5 a.m.,” fire officials say.
“The fire is currently under investigation.”
There were no injuries reported.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
“We continuously see an increase of fires in the fall/winter months in CK, usually these fires happen in the middle of the night,” Whitney Burk, public educator, said in a media release.
“The cause is commonly linked to heating sources/electrical and most of the time accidental in nature. We can’t stress enough the importance of working smoke and co alarms in the home, they are your best protection, especially when you’re sleeping to alert you. Please test and check the dates on your alarms – just because they are there, doesn’t guarantee they are working.”
Burk added: “And as always, if you need assistance with your alarms – please contact us for a CHiRP Home Alarm Check by visit ckfire.ca or calling 311.”
