Sold-out Childs’ luncheon raises over $12,000 in Wallaceburg

The 48th annual Christmas luncheon and dinner, hosted by the Childs family, has been deemed a success once again.

The sold-out event, which was held at the Black Goose Grill in downtown Wallaceburg, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 raised a total of $12,100, with the Salvation Army receiving $9,100 and the Wallaceburg Pantry receiving $3,000.

A total of 532 meals were served, a post Oaks Inn record, Black Goose Grill officials said on social media.

“Thanks to Kent McKenzie of Morton’s Wholesale, Todd Noel of GFS, Jim McGowan of Sysco, Brian Wadsworth of Kent Sanitation, Joe Fanelli of Maple City Bakery, Foster Meats and 99.1 for making this possible,” Mark Childs said in a Facebook post.

“Also thanks to Ron Ameloot, Dee Heath, Fran Childs and the Goose Gang for making it work. Due to a beef shortage, we had to sell out.”

Goose officials added next year, their goal is 700 meals and $15,000.

“It was the first dinner without Dad,” Childs added.

“I’m sure he was smiling down. From Josh, Jake, Deb, Sam, Ben, Olivia, Fran and myself, Merry Christmas and thank you.”

The event has raised over $355,000 since its inception.
