Man arrested for intimate partner violence

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 8, 2023, at 6:53 a.m., police responded to Water Street in Wallaceburg for a domestic disturbance.

Through investigation, police learned the man initiated a verbal argument with the woman.

The argument escalated when the man struck the woman in the jaw, causing it to swell.

Police also learned of historical incidents that resulted in other injuries.

The 59-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault, two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man and woman arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 12:07 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Scane Road in Howard Township.

The plates on the vehicle were registered to another vehicle.

Through investigation, police learned the vehicle was reported stolen from a business on Mitton Line in August 2022.

The occupants were arrested.

Police also discovered the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license.

The 31-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

She was released with a future court date.

The 27-year-old Ridgetown man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, driving while suspended and using an unauthorized license plate.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Crime of the Week

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers officials allege: Sometime since September, unknown suspects entered a storage unit on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Once inside, the suspects stole several thousand dollars worth of items.

Police are still working with the owners to determine what exact property was stolen from the storage unit.
