Man arrested for theft and outstanding warrants
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 13, 2023 at 2:52 p.m. police responded to a suspicious person complaint at Walmart in Chatham.
Prior to police arrival, it was learned that the man had left the property in a vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently located by police a short distance away and a traffic stop was initiated.
Through conversation with the man, police were able to establish his identity and it was determined that he had outstanding warrants for failing to attend court and breach of probation.
Additional investigation into the matter also resulted in the man being charged with theft under $5,000 regarding a separate theft complainant at Walmart on January 7, 2023.
The 35-year-old Wallaceburg man was ultimately arrested and released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.
Woman arrested for property offences and resisting arrest
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 13, 2023 at 4:28 p.m. police responded to a theft complainant at Giant Tiger in Chatham.
Information received was that a female suspect had fled the store without paying for a cart full of items.
Using the description of the suspect provided by the complainant, police located the woman walking through the parking lot of the property.
As a result of the investigation, the woman was arrested for theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
During the course of the arrest, the woman also resisted officers and was charged for doing so accordingly.
The 27-year-old Chatham woman was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.
Man arrested for impaired driving
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 13, 2023 at 3:25 p.m. police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Seventh Line and Howard Road in Chatham.
Upon police arrival, it was learned that the male driver had lost control of his motor vehicle and collided with a hydro pole.
Through investigation, police determined that the male driver was impaired by alcohol and he was subsequently arrested for operation while impaired.
The male was then transported to police headquarters where two breath samples registering over the legal limit were obtained.
The man was additionally charged with having more than the prescribed allowable amount of alcohol in his blood while operating a motor vehicle.
The 18-year-old Holland Landing man was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.
