Traffic complaint leads to arrest

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), stopped and investigated a vehicle after receiving a report of a suspected impaired driver from an off-duty officer.

On January 16, 2023, at approximately 12:01 a.m., an officer of the Chatham Detachment located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Alice Street, Thamesville.

The investigating officer administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering an Alert.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 28-year-old of Chatham, Ontario was charged with the following:

– Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

– Drive left of centre – on a curve

– Fail to surrender insurance card

Additionally, the driver was issued a three-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.

180 km/h on the 401

OPP officials allege: On January 10, 2023, at approximately 10:02 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 181 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 22-year-old of Windsor, Ontario was charged with the following:

– Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Driving while under suspension

– Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

Unsealed container of liquor

OPP officials allege: On January 10, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger while conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint at the Victoria Road off-ramp of the Westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham Kent.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old of Kent Bridge, Ontario was charged with Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor.

Trailer removed from ditch

OPP officials allege: On January 13, 2023, at approximately 8:50 a.m., officers with the Chatham Detachment attended a single vehicle Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) on the Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

A commercial trailer separated from the transport truck pulling it.

The trailer left the roadway and entered the ditch. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

A member from the Ministry of Transportation attended the scene and carriage of the investigation was passed over to that agency.

One lane of the highway was closed temporarily to allow for safe removal of the trailer from the ditch.

Speeding and crash on the 401

OPP officials allege: On January 13, 2023, at approximately 11:09 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the Eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 163 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h zone.

Prior to initiating the traffic stop the passenger vehicle was observed to abruptly change lanes, lose control, and collide with a guard rail.

The driver was not injured.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Owen Sound, Ontario was charged with:

– Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

– Careless Driving

163 km/h on the 401

OPP officials allege: On January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 163 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 28-year-old of Leamington, Ontario was charged with Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.

160 km/h on the 401

OPP officials allege: On January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:43 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding 160 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 31-year-old of London, Ontario was charged with Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.

Anyone charged with Drive motor vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment of the involved motor vehicle and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
