The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has announced that Chief Dan Miskokomon and Jeff Wesley have joined the organization’s Board of Directors.

Chief Miskokomon and Wesley assumed their posts at the January 26, 2023 Board meeting, hospital officials say.

Chief Miskokomon is currently serving as Chief for Walpole Island First Nation and is leading Walpole’s Council in their vision of building a healthy, dynamic nation rich in language and culture.

He has held the position of Chief off and on for 12 years since 1988.

Additionally, Chief Miskokomon has held previous roles of First Nation Manager for Walpole Island First Nation and Moravian of the Thames, Co-Manager for Munsee-Delaware Nation and Economic Development Programs Planner for Walpole Island First Nation.

His early work experience includes various roles in engineering, drafting services, construction, building inspections, project management and environmental audits.

Chief Miskokomon previously served on CKHA’s Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021.

“On behalf of CKHA’s Board of Directors, we are delighted to welcome back Chief Miskokomon to our Board,” said Alan Wildeman, Chair, CKHA Board of Directors, in a media release.

“Through his storied executive and operational experience, he brings with him a wide range of management, financial, administrative and strategic planning skills. It is a priority of the Board to attract members who bring the skills we need to ensure that we can offer guidance to the important work of CKHA administration and staff, and provide oversight on behalf of the community served by CKHA.”

Wesley has served in volunteer roles for various hospital and health care committees over the past three decades, hospital officials say.

His previous roles include Director and Chair of the former Sydenham District Hospital Board; Director, CKHA Board; Director, CKHA Foundation; and Chair of the Save Our Sydenham Committee.

As a former councillor for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Mayor for the Town of Wallaceburg, Wesley has extensive experience working with multiple stakeholders and community members, hospital officials added.

For 34 years, he served as Manager of Municipal Relations (Major Projects Group) at Union Gas and since 2018, has practiced law at Anderson Law Group.

Wesley is also a Director for Infrastructure Ontario, a role he has held since 2019.

“In addition to recently joining our Building Community Advisory Committee to inform the next stage of planning and design for the Wallaceburg Site, we are pleased to now welcome Mr. Wesley to our Board of Directors,” Wildeman said, in a press release.

“Mr. Wesley has an extensive track-record of serving the Wallaceburg area and working with multiple stakeholders and community groups. His skills and knowledge will be a great addition to our Board and guiding CKHA in its delivery of safe, high quality care.”
