Lambton OPP release ‘Operation Safe Driver’ campaign results

The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to work towards keeping Ontario’s highways and roadways safe for all who use them.

Lambton County OPP participated in ‘Operation Safe Driver’, a campaign that ran from July 7 to 14, 2024.

This campaign aimed at improving road safety and reducing collisions involving commercial motor vehicles (CMV) and passenger vehicles.

Police focused on targeted enforcement efforts, education, and public awareness.

The initiative focused on promoting safe driving behaviors, such as obeying speed limits and avoiding distracted, or impaired driving, to enhance overall road safety.

The OPP and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) also ensured compliance of commercial drivers and their trucks, equipment and loads.

Officers also verified that records were kept up to the standards required by law.

Overall, 17 commercial motor vehicle charges were laid, six of which were for having improper documentation.

A total of 198 traffic-related motor vehicle charges were also laid.

The OPP would like to remind CMV operators about the importance of completing accurate pre-trip inspections, of having the necessary documentation, of being aware of weight and load restrictions, and of ensuring regular maintenance and that annual inspections are completed on their vehicles.

“Aggressive and careless drivers have no place on our roads, especially when sharing the road involves large commercial vehicles. Tragically, many families again this year are paying a devastating price – the senseless, preventable loss of their loved ones – because of drivers who make a conscious decision to not share our roads safely,” stated Thomas Carrique, Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner, in a media release
