Police: Shoplifting in Chatham, suspicious activity

Woman arrested for theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 3:51 p.m., police responded to Real Canadian Superstore on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a theft investigation.

Police learned the woman was observed removing items from the shelves and leaving the store, not attempting to pay for them.

A description and her direction of travel were provided.

The woman was located on St. Clair Street and found in possession of the stolen items.

Police also learned the woman was bound by a release order with a condition not to attend the Real Canadian Superstore.

The 28-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with theft, possession of the stolen property and failing to comply with a release order.

She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for breach of probation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 7:13 p.m., police responded to the Real Canadian Superstore for suspicious activity.

Police located the man and learned he was wanted for failing to comply with a probation order.

The 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged accordingly.

He was released with a future court date.
