From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
One of the most valuable, and at times rarest, traits of a person’s life is noble character.
It was Malcolm S. Forbes who once said, “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”
It is the personal support worker changing the diaper of an elderly patient.
It is the elementary school teacher patiently working with their first-grade student while she is learning to read.
It is the single mom changing bed sheets at 3 a.m. after their child was sick through the night.
It has also been stated that character is who you are when nobody is watching.
If you study the life of Jesus in the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the New Testament, you will find a life of true noble character.
You may be thinking that He had an advantage, what with being the Son of God and all.
However, by following His example we can also walk in a manner that displays noble character.
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
I also think that keeping one’s word is a key to walking in noble character.
Psalm 15 is a passage of Scripture that deals with the attributes of a consistent follower of the Lord.
One of those attributes is listed in verse 4: “He swears to his own hurt and does not change.”
Another way of stating that is, “he keeps his word even when there are consequences to do otherwise.”
Let’s all strive to be people of sound character and then see how it affects those around us.
