Spring is on the horizon and ARTspace gallery has asked artists from across Chatham-Kent to submit works about the continuing global issue of Climate Change and its effects.
Art + Climate = Change is a Community Arts Initiative open to all residents of Chatham- Kent.
Submitted works will be on view at ARTspace located at 165 ½ King Street West, Chatham with an opening reception on March 10, 2023 at 7 p.m.
Organizers say climate change is an issue that has been top of mind for many: there are those who doubt that it is a genuine concern, while others predict global catastrophe looming in a near future.
“Science has weighed in on the subject with disturbing results, and politicians continue to meet to discuss the global impacts and debate economic repercussions,” ARTspace officials said in a media release.
“Environmentalists continue to press for more responsible management of the natural world. This exhibition offers a platform for artists of all skill levels in Chatham-Kent to creatively engage with this issue and visualize how we might arrive at a better understanding of our current situation and how it impacts life right here at home.”
Three Awards of Merit will be presented at the opening, with winners receiving season passes to local Conservation Areas as generously donated by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
In addition, a People’s Choice award of $200 will be presented to the award winner by William Street Café.
The People’s Choice Award will be presented as the exhibition ends on Earth Day, April 22 and everyone is encouraged to cast their votes at the gallery over the course of the exhibition.
