Don Kennedy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Donald “Don” Kennedy on March 7, 2023 at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg at the age of 95 years.

Dear father to his three sons; Douglas (Suzanne Kuchta), Sandy (Karen Lapoint) and Scott (Tekla Lampman). Proud Grandpa to Marcy (Chris) Saylor, Ian (Stephanie) Kennedy, Janine (Tim) Turnbull, Carolyn (Derek) Rickman, Brad (Jamie) Kennedy, Kristina (Mike) Simpson and Jeff (Kayla) Kennedy. Proud GeePa to Ezra Kennedy, Grady and Amelia Turnbull, Kaley and Blake Rickman, Oliver and Evelyn Simpson.

Don was born January 9, 1928 in Guelph Ontario.

He is predeceased by his parents David and Bessie Kennedy; siblings John David Kennedy, Agnes Elizabeth Shaw, and Barbara McKay Pennington/Metherell; and his loving wife Ruth Isabelle (Simpson) Kennedy (2021).

Don and Ruth farmed for many years in the Tupperville area.

They retired to the beautiful shores of Lake Huron just outside of Kincardine where Don’s family had spent their summers his whole life.

Don was a Scout leader and a lifelong Rotarian. He and Ruth spent many hours tending the Rotary gardens in Kincardine by the marina.

He loved his big dogs and many will remember him and Ruth with their dog, Oreo, walking in the Pipe band parade every Saturday night in Kincardine throughout the summer.

Emmerton Beach held his heart and he did his absolute best to install a love of the lake and surrounding area in his children, grandchildren and anyone who came to visit.

As per Don’s wishes his cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231).

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life and Burial in Kincardine at a later date.

If you wish to make a donation in Don’s Memory, please consider the Kincardine Rotary Club or Wallaceburg Pet and Wildlife Rescue.

Cherished stories and tributes may be left for the family at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca.
