The Chatham-Kent Food Policy Council (CKFPC) is looking for volunteers from staff of community organizations, as well as community members who have an interest in any sector of Chatham-Kent’s food system.
The CKFPC, which is an official group under the Board of Health for the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, is comprised of community members, and other key partners from various sectors that represent the food system.
The mission of the CKFPC is to lead in the development of relevant policies and to advocate for our local food system.
“A Food Policy Council provides a space for interested folks to gather around, so to speak,” said Sharmini Balakrishnan, CK Public Health Nutritionist, in a media release.
“Rather than a number of different advocates working in silos, on separate issues around the food system, a Food Policy Council creates the opportunity for coordination and integration, and is much more efficient.”
Members must be at least 18 years of age or older and must live, work or provide service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
The CKFPC is recruiting representatives for the following positions:
– Health Care Sector/Health Related Non-Governmental Organization
– Older Adults Organization
– Emergency Food Providers
– Agriculture
– Youth and Immigration
– Education
– Grocer/Restaurant/Food Processing/Food Distribution/Institutional Purchasing
– Community Gardens/Horticultural Societies
– General Community Members
