The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is pleased to acknowledge the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s (OLG) annual contribution to the Municipality from the operation of Gateway’s Cascades Casino Chatham.
During OLG’s fiscal year 2022 (April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022), Chatham-Kent received $921,281, and for fiscal year 2023, received $1,692,836, Municipal officials say.
This sum is allocated each year to general revenues to offset the costs of all municipally delivered services, as well as municipal grants, used to support community groups, events and community initiatives.
“OLG is proud to be a vital part of Chatham-Kent for more than 22 years, and we look forward to continuing to build on that support,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager, in a media release.
“Each and every year, 100 percent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial priorities. From critical infrastructure, to important local programs, to community festivals, OLG’s profits are hard at work in Chatham-Kent and all across our province to build stronger communities. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming site employees at Cascades Casino Chatham who are making life in Chatham-Kent that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”
This “significant investment in our community” represents nearly one percent of the 2023 municipal budget, said Mayor Darrin Canniff.
“This is money that directly supports the delivery of services to citizens and contributes to the overall wellbeing of the community,” Mayor Canniff said in a media release.
“We recognize and appreciate the important role the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Association plays in supporting our community. Their contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of our residents, and we are proud to partner with them in promoting a better future for our community.”
The announcement was made during a special ceremony held at the Civic Centre with Citizen volunteer representatives from the Together CK Municipal Grant Program.
