ALPR helps recover stolen plates in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On August 1, 2023, an officer observed a vehicle on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Equipped with an Axon ALPR, the officer received an alert that the vehicle’s front license plate was linked to a stolen vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated, leading to the arrest of the driver, who admitted to not having a driver’s license.

Further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited from driving due to impaired driving and unpaid fines.

The driver was subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

He was released on a Form 9 Appearance Notice, with a court date of August 28, 2023.

The Chatham-Kent Police recognizes the invaluable contribution of automated license plate readers in enhancing public safety and combating criminal activities.

This incident is a testament to the effectiveness of this technology in identifying stolen vehicles and aiding in the arrest of individuals involved in illegal activities.
