OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (Chatham Detachment) has charged an individual following a collision investigation.
On November 16, 2023, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a member the Chatham Detachment came across a two-vehicle collision that had recently occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Park Avenue, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
The investigating officer observed signs of intoxication from one of the drivers, this individual was taken into custody without incident and transported to detachment for further testing.
Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service attended the location and assisted the OPP with the collision investigation.
As a result of the investigation the driver, a 20-year-old Chatham man, was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
No serious injuries were reported.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on December 11, 2023.
The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.
