Assault, forcible confinement and criminal harassment charged laid in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 14, 2023, at 6:13 p.m., police responded to McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham for a disturbance.

Through investigation, the officer learned a verbal argument between the man and a woman escalated into a physical altercation.

When the woman attempted to leave, the man blocked her exit.

The man also continuously attended the woman’s home and made repeated attempts to communicate with her, which was unwanted.

A warrant was issued for his arrest when he could not be located.

On November 24, 2023, at 6:08 a.m., while on general patrol, an officer stopped the man on Fourth Street, near King Street, in Chatham and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The 29-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, forcible confinement, and criminal harassment.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
