No words can describe the loss of a husband, brother, uncle, neighbour and friend.
Scott Atherton moved on from this world on January 9th , 2024, 10 short days after celebrating a joyous family Christmas with his loved ones. He was born to the late Joe and Iris (Askew) Atherton on June 8, 1959, in Wallaceburg, the town that he would call home for his entire life.
Scott attended Wallaceburg District Secondary School and then pursued a career in the Tool and Die industry.
In 1987, Scott married his best friend, Tracey VanGeersdale, who would become his partner in life. He spent every day with her. Scott would tell you he would not have lived 64 years on earth without her. Scott’s favourite pastime was spending time in his Garage Mahal. You would find him there, rebuilding a ‘67 Camaro, detailing cars, and in later years, harvesting seeds into beautiful flowers. Scott became an expert botanist and delighted in sharing his floral creations with neighbours, family and friends.
There was no role that Scott took more pleasure in than being favourite Uncle Scotty to his nieces and nephews. He was a master chef at his Big Green Egg and would accommodate special orders from anyone.
Scott is survived by his devoted wife Tracey and his furbaby Marley; his sisters Judy Bachus (Tom), and Sue Baert (Darrick); his brother Joe Atherton (Jody); his nieces Breanna Atherton (Scott), Lauren Baert (Greg), Kelly Bachus, and Katie Baert (Darren); and his nephew Kyle Bachus (Courtney). Great Uncle to Reid, Noah and Bodie.
Fondly remembered by Tracey’s siblings Deb Gurd (Todd), Sindy (the late Randy) McNeil, Jill VanZelst (Roland) and many VanGeersdale nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Tracey’s parents Ella and Joseph VanGeersdale.
Family and Friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231), on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
