A flood watch from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) remains in place across the region on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
SCRCA officials say water levels continue to rise and they are anticipated to react more quickly with increased runoff.
There are also saturated soils; ponding, and flooding in floodplain areas, several roads closed due to flooding, SCRCA officials added.
“Water levels across the watershed remain high and continue to rise due to the rain and warmer temperatures over the past four days,” SCRCA officials say.
“Recent rainfall amounts and snow melt are causing an increase in runoff into watercourses. Water levels are expected to stabilize in the lower reaches of the watershed by (Saturday) afternoon.”
The following roads have been closed due to flooding:
– Stanley Line between Kimball Road and Waubuno Road
– Plowing Match Road between Rokeby Line and Petrolia Line
– Black Ash Road between Durham Creek Line and Rokeby Line
– Gypsie Flats Road between Durham Creek Line and Rokeby Line
“Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water,” SCRCA officials say.
“Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.”
This flood watch will remain in effect until Monday, January 29, 2024, unless otherwise updated.
